UL approval for the US and Canadian markets
FELA has held UL approval since 1981. FELA currently holds approval for multilayer and single/ double-layer printed circuit boards. UL approvals are issued for particular products and are re-tested at regular intervals. The Underwriters Laboratories organisation, founded in 1894 in the US, operates like VDE or TÜV to examine products for safety, mainly for fire protection aspects. UL approval is often needed to access a market in the US. UL standards are mostly recognised by the VDE.
